This is my first review, and there is a good reason why I have chosen this particular album. The band is called Falls Of Rauros, a four man Black/Folk Metal group from the United States, Maine. The only two known members being Acrimonious Vagabond and Abhorrent Wayfarer (might as well all be anonymous, right? hah!). Over the past 6 months I have grown to love their music more and more, to the point where they have risen in title to my top 10 inspirational bands. What makes this group so timelessly unique is their ability to incorporate soft, heartfelt, melodic riffs with the usual grimy and satanic black metal ones. Into The Archaic was FOR's first full length album release, and is one of the best folk metal albums of all time (IMHO, of course) just sitting down in a quiet location, walking through the streets, or even in the busiest of settings, the ballads of this album ring through the listeners ears creating a feeling of general oneness, and reminding said listener of a brisk, snowy, winter night lost in the woods, desperately seeking light through the endless fields of oak. The sound that FOR has continued to produce over time has been reminiscent of Agalloch's Pale Folklore era. This may well be why I adore this band so very much. However, I recommend that all black and folk metal fans alike give this album a try. Falls Of Rauros to this day remains very private in their identification as well as promotion. They are more or less a diamond hiding amongst the coal.
